Geo Targeting Helps with Google Search results

Geo what? It isn't quite a complex as it sounds. One useful and not often understood tip is that if your user base is located mostly in a geographical region e.g the united kingdom, it helps with search engine results to have your web site hosted on a server there. NOTE: Replace the word search engine with Google. I have no evidence how it effects Bing or the other search engines.

I will give an example - a web site that was based in the UK was getting around 400 unique visitors a day. This was enough to get them from 2 to 10 sales a day. Not bad, it made the site into a nice little revenue stream. Well, until that is one day to save money and take advantage of some of the excellent hosting available in the U.S the web master (me..oops) moved it to a US web server.

Oh dear...search engine traffic went south from 400 unique visitors a day to about 80 a day. Bye bye business! It didn't occur to me at first what was effecting the traffic. Then the penny dropped. Okay, urgently moved the hosting back to the UK and everything was well again (after week or two)
